Moving mountains.
Being a teenager is one of the hardest things that can happen to a human being, literally. You're too young to be stupid and not old enough to be smart, or for people to acknowledge that you're smart. You're stuck in the middle and it's so hard. With all the pressure from society and from, your friends too. You have a mind of your own but you're not sure of its decisions, so you rely on others who seem so sure of themselves. You get blamed for your mistakes and you burn inside. Nobody knows how you feel. You're discovering yourself and you stumble so many times on the road to discovery. It's seems like the world is moving on without you and there's nothing you can do.
Every day , I switch on the television and my heart literally bleeds for what is going on in the world. Then again, I think what can I do? I'm only just a teenager. I have no job, I'm still dependent on my parents and I have no means. But then it hit me I can move mountains. I really can.
As teenagers, we have energy and are such a bunch of talented people. But what's killing us is the need to conform. The desire to belong, to be cool. We judge each other by how many twitter followers we have, or how many retweets we can get. For the girls , it's like a competition to see who can wear the most revealing clothes and post pictures on instagram. We want to go to all the cool parties and throw cool parties too. We want to listen to vulgar music because that's what is 'in' and no, we can't be out. We HAVE to be In. No matter what it costs us. Even if the price we have to pay is our individuality. We lose it to become like every body else. Nobody wants to speak up against what's going on in the world today, because we think we don't matter, our opinions don't matter. But we forget that we can move mountains.
These days, it's like the only career options are music, photography, and modelling. Don't get me wrong , I'm not saying those are bad things . What's bad about it is the fact that everyone thinks if they aren't one of those things , they aren't relevant. We all have different talents which are important to the development of our world. Like a wise person once said , variety is the spice of life. What's the point in being the same? Following the norm? Let's all dig deep into our inner selves and search for that one thing . That thing that sets us apart from others. When we find it, we shouldn't be afraid. We have to make change. We have to move mountains. The only way we can do that is by using our talents in creative ways.
Honestly , being a teenager is not about turning rogue and finding ourselves later. It's about finding ourselves now. Have you ever wondered, what if the solution to one of the problems facing the world today lies with me? What if? What's my quota to contribute to humanity? What if our generation took the initiative and started early. What if we decided to learn from the mistakes of the past ? What if we weren't scared to chase our dreams. Then I'm sure we have all the power it takes to move mountains.
